This morning, there were rumors that a Sesame Street event today and tomorrow at the U.S. Cellular Center was canceled due to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's Thursday visit.
But, according to box office assistant manager Ian Moye, the event's promoter cancelled the "Sesame Street Live: Can't Stop Singing" event due to low ticket sales.
"Ticket sales were dismal, and as far as I know, that was the reason," Moye tells Xpress. "It is entertaining, considering the comments at the debate, but the two are completely unrelated."
Romney's comments during last week's presidential debate that "I like PBS, I love Big Bird" but that he wants to cut PBS' federal subsidy have attracted criticism, including a satirical ad from President Barack Obama's campaign.
Romney will speak at the center Thursday night. Tickets for that event are available at the campaign's Asheville office, located at 16 Regent Park Blvd.

Some actual promoting would have helped the Sesame Street event. I had no idea about it and I would have loved to have taken my daughter.
