NC flags lowered in honor of Sen. Don East of Surry County

Gov. Bev Perdue today ordered all North Carolina state flags on state facilities to be lowered immediately to half staff in tribute to Sen. Don East of Surry County, who passed this morning following complications from surgery. He represented his District 30 for seven terms in the N.C. Senate.

Funeral arrangements are pending. All North Carolinians are invited to join in this tribute.

Flags should be returned to full staff at sunset on Tuesday, October 23. A retired police officer, East represented the citizens of Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties.
