U.S. Dept. of Energy recognizes Asheville area as Clean City

The US Department of Energy has designated the Land of Sky Clean Vehicles Coalition as the 86th Clean Cities Coalition in the nation.

Local and state officials will be joined by Mr. Steven Richardson, Southeast Regional Manager of the US DOE’s Clean Cities Program who will announce the Designation for the 5-county Asheville Metropolitan Region.

Over 40 Coalition Stakeholders will sign a Memorandum of Understanding supporting the goals of the Clean Cities Program and work of the Land of Sky Clean Vehicles Coalition to increase the use of alternative fueled and advanced technology vehicles. These Stakeholders displaced over 500,000 gallons of petroleum in 2011 helping to wean our nation off foreign sources of oil and improve air quality in the region.
