A nonprofit group devoted to protecting the Mills River watershed has won a $200,000 state grant that will allow it to continue helping landowners in their efforts to preserve water quality downstream.

The Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy applied for the grant from the N.C. Division of Water Quality on behalf of the Mills Rivers Partnership, a diverse group of stakeholders that includes farmers, municipal water suppliers, conservationists and local governments.
