The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that the Metropolitan Sewerage District will suggest the city of Asheville get $57 million — paid over a 50-year period — for the infrastructure and debt on the water system. The C-T also reports that MSD estimates the value of the system at $169 million. MSD's board has scheduled a noon, Friday, Nov. 30, hearing on the merger, which was recommended by a state committee chaired by local Rep. Tim Moffitt. Here's a press release from local group, PARC.

MSD has presented the findings on a study they commissioned (cost to the taxpayers- $200,000) on an MSD and Asheville water merger without an important component - how much it would cost to buy or lease the water system from the City of Asheville.

This important MSD meeting is to fill in the gaps of what the real cost would be to you, the ratepayer, if that missing component is considered and added on. The water referendum showed that concerned citizens wants the City to keep its water system. We need you as one of those concerned citizens to attend this meeting and show that support and ask questions! Representative Chuck McGrady will be attending the meeting.
