Around 4:45 p.m. this afternoon, Asheville Police received a call that two men were fighting in front of the Decko Gecko sculpture in Pritchard Park in downtown Asheville. When officers got to the scene, Lt. Wally Welch explains, they found that one man had been struck in the head with a cane and cut with a knife and the other man had been cut on his cheek.
"At the moment, we're currently checking with all the witnesses and trying to get a feel for the story and find out who needs to go to jail and who doesn't," Welch told Xpress. "It's a rare event that this kind of thing happens, especially during the day."
Criminal investigations detectives were on the scene.
One man is being transported to Mission Hospital for knife cuts on his face.
Xpress will update this story with a release from the Asheville Police Department once it is received.
