Joint raids by Homeland Security, the Asheville Police Department and the Buncombe, Transylvania, Henderson County sheriff's offices targeted Octopus Garden locations earlier today, carrying out search warrants related to "bath salts" amphetamines and synthetic marijuana.

Hitting the local head shop chain's six locations, the raids removed items from the stores, including hookahs and pipes that are generally legal. So far, federal authorities are remaining quiet about the details or implications of the raids.

"There have been no formal charges filed in U.S. District Court as a result of the execution of the federal search warrants," Lia Bantavani, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office, writes to Xpress.
