Singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Tess Brunet is not afraid of a challenge. Her music career reads like a page from the truth or dare playbook — she left her adoptive home at age 17, moved to New York where got a job at S.I.R. Studios and taught herself to play drums on her breaks. After a mere six months of practice, she signed a record deal with Fat Possum (recording as Deadboy & the Elephantmen with Dax Riggs). Brunet also served as touring drummer for Asheville BFFs Generationals before going solo (as Au Ras Au Ras). She composed her 2008 debut on autoharp and her most recent album, darkly-dreamy The Great Nothing, on classical guitar. Which she'd been playing for less than a year, naturally. Tess Brunet stops by Apothecary on Saturday, Jan. 19. Bellows also performs. https://www.facebook.com/ashevilleapothecary. Read the full interview at mountainx.com.
