Children First/Communities in Schools of Buncombe County is a nonprofit that serves economically disadvantaged children and families. Through after school learning centers, Latino outreach and the Success Equation advocacy program, Children First is taking strides to help local children thrive.

The nonprofit is launching a $15,000 matching grant challenge sponsored by community leaders Terry Van Duyn and Jennie Eblen. The grant will focus on promoting investments in early childhood education, expanding living wage jobs and promoting budget reform.

"Children First/CIS does an amazing job of working with children and families in eliminating poverty," says Jennie Eblen in a recently released video.  "The work they are doing has already had a profound effect on our community. Through our advocacy work, we have been able to keep a significant amount of money in child care subsidies here in WNC."

Terry Van Duyn adds, "I love that Asheville has someone that will stand up for children. I am hoping that by making this challenge grant, I can get the word out about the good work that Children First/CIS is doing."

The public can get involved by going to www.childrenfirstbc.org. See their work up close in this new video:
