Local celebrities and political figures--including Buncombe County Commission Chairman David Gantt and Sheriff Van Duncan--helped raise funds and awareness for Meals on Wheels Saturday by plunging into a frigid swimming pool at the Asheville Racquet Club. By 11 a.m. Saturday, the annual Polar Bear Plunge had raised nearly $20,000 for the charity organization, and donations were still coming in.
