Five-day figure and portrait drawing class to be offered March 18-22

Press release

From Skyuka Fine Art

Richard Christian Nelson (Rich Nelson) will be teaching a 5-Day Figure And Portrait Drawing Workshop in Asheville, NC, March 18-22, 2013. The class will take place at the Nelson’s new studio in the River Arts District from 9-4 each day.

Artists will work on the fundamentals of anatomy, form, and light to improve our skills at drawing the figure and portrait. This is open to all media, but charcoal (on white paper, and on toned paper with white conte) will be emphasized. According to Nelson, “Good drawing skills are critical to many forms of art, and yet the allure of painting, sculpture or another medium often speeds us past this critical skill before we can get a solid handle on it. We can then spend a lifetime regretting our poor drawing skills and not feeling confident of our abilities, or we can confront and begin to master this ability.”

This workshop is open to all levels and all media, but drawing in charcoal or graphite will be emphasized. Class size is limited to 12, and the cost of the workshop is $500, which includes the model fee. You can see examples of Nelson’s drawing and other work at http://richnelson.com/works.

The artists will concentrate on drawing from the live model. There will be lectures and demos by Nelson, and group ‘critiques’. You can visit http://richnelson.com/workshops, email rich@richnelson.com or call 828-859-0318 for more information.
