What: Food, music and drama to benefit the Thomas Wolfe Memorial.
Where: Writer's Bistro in the Renaissance Hotel, 31 Woodfin St.
When: Wednesday, Feb. 20, 5-8 p.m. $20. http://www.wolfememorial.com.
Why: The Thomas Wolfe Memorial is more than a museum. It's a trove of artifacts that keep the memory of local literary giant Thomas Wolfe alive. Where else can you walk through the rooms where Wolfe spent his childhood and see the setting and inspiration for classic books like Wolfe’s debut novel, Look Homeward, Angel?
Celebrate Wolfe's legacy with an evening of music, theater and food to benefit the memorial’s efforts to maintain Wolfe's "Old Kentucky Home." Barbershop quartet Aire will bring harmony to the forefront while guests mingle and enjoy local hors d’oeuvres. Asheville Community Theatre will present a costumed dramatic interpretation of Wolfe's first novel, a rare chance to immerse oneself in Wolfe's world.
The Thomas Wolfe Memorial will also host a "write-in" for kids and adults on Saturday, Feb. 23. Writers of all ages are invited to compose literature in the home that inspired Wolfe, to benefit Asheville Writers in the Schools.
