London-born, New York-based (with a stop-off in Paris) songwriter Rupert Wates can also count WNC among his locales. He recorded his most recent album, At The Losers’ Motel, at Echo Mountain studios. And he made the record with local talent: vocalist Valorie Miller, bassist Mike Holstein, percussionist Byron Hedgepeth, violinist Amy Lovinger and cellist Franklin Keel. (Wates also contributed to Miller's album, Turtle Shell.) Rupert Wates takes the stage at the White Horse Black Mountain on Sunday, March 3. 7 p.m., $8. http://www.whitehorseblackmountain.com.
