This is an online companion piece to Xpress' Feb. 27 cover story, "Building Knowledge: Asheville Pushes for New Schools"

In this video, Isaac Dickson Elementary Principal Brad Johnson takes viewers on a short tour of the school and discusses some of the problems with the aging facility. Built in 1953, he says the current building suffers from a long list of ailments, including safety issues, unwieldy corridors, and an antiquated heating and cooling system.

Johnson and other Asheville City School officials are pushing to replace the building with a cutting edge new $18.9 million facility. The below video is made up of schematic images of the design and is meant to give viewers a sense of what the new building and grounds would be like, according to Charlie Glazener, Asheville City Schools communications director.
