Entrepreneurs and artists are gathering for the third annual Creative Sector Summit, a series of events that aim to spur economic growth in the local arts sector.
Running March 6–8 at venues around town, it began yesterday with a pair of panels in which speakers explored the topics of "creative placemaking" and sustainable development initiatives. Today's events include a panel on collaborating with local governments and securing funding. The schedule also features a meeting to form a Buncombe County Cultural Task Force charged with developing a more strategic approach to securing resources.
The summit is facilitated by the Asheville Area Arts Council, in partnership with the City of Asheville, the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, The Asheville Art Museum, The Asheville Community Theater, Handmade in America, The Asheville HUB Project and Arts North Carolina.
