Bunnies get all the glory this time of year, but the humble wolf dog deserves its due. Full Moon Farm rescues canines with recent wolf heritage and this Easter the organization will host an egg hunt to benefit dogs in need. Kids ages 12 and under are invited to scour Patton Avenue Pet Company's outdoor area for eggs decorated just for the occasion (1 p.m. for ages 7 and under; 2 p.m. ages 8-12). Then children can have their photos taken with the Easter Bunny and pose with River, Full Moon Farm's well-mannered "ambassadog."

Family pups will be welcomed with open paws later in the day for a canine egg hunt (hard-boiled and glitter free, of course). Dogs must stay on leash during the egg hunt, but household dogs will have 30 minutes of social time in the dog park afterwards. The afternoon will also include face painting, nail trims, contests and a bake sale for pets and humans.

"Without wolves, there would be no dogs," proclaims the Full Moon Farm website. The Black Mountain-based rescue organization offers a safe haven for wolf dogs in need of love, shelter and care. With a mission like that, even the Easter Bunny can share the limelight.
