An investigation by UNC Asheville Police has resulted in the arrest of two suspects in an armed robbery that was reported in a campus parking lot the night of March 20. The victim of the robbery, a UNC Asheville student, was not injured.
UNC Asheville Police today obtained felony warrants for the arrest of Javius Marquez Davidson, 18, and a 16-year-old suspect, on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, second degree kidnapping, financial card theft and possession of stolen property.
Shortly after the warrants were issued, the suspects were arrested by the Asheville Police Department at off-campus locations. The two suspects are not UNC Asheville students. They are being held in the Buncombe County Detention Center.
UNC Asheville Police obtained video evidence from a convenience store on Merrimon Ave. where the victim’s ATM card was used, which helped lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects. They were also questioned by Asheville Police Department officers the night of the robbery in the proximity of the convenience store.
“We continue to work diligently for the safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors to our campus,” said UNC Asheville Chief of Police Eric Boyce. “This is a cooperative effort we undertake with the campus community, and we want to encourage people who have information about dangerous or illegal activity to contact us.”
