Why: Abiding Savior is one of seven Lutheran churches nationwide to receive a 2013 grant from Chicago-based nonprofit Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries. The local church will offer LGBTQ couples a time apart to work on communication skills and meet other couples who value spirituality as an important part of their relationship.
The retreat includes a light breakfast and lunch, and focuses on worship, relationship building, Bible study and fellowship. The retreat will be led by Abiding Savior's Rev. David Eck and Rev. Stacey Jaudon, a pastoral counselor and licensed clinical social worker. Piano music will be provided by Rev. Eck's partner, Commissioned Minister of Music and Art Gary Mitchell.
Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries' mission is to expand ministry opportunities for LGBTQ people called to rostered Lutheran ministry. The nonprofit provides a candidacy and credentialing process, support to a collegium of LGBTQ rostered leaders, and grants to ministry by publicly identified LGBTQ clergy and rostered lay leaders in the Lutheran Church. www.elm.org
