Asheville, NC— The Campaign to Re-Elect Cecil Bothwell to Asheville City Council is sponsoring two buses to Raleigh for today’s Moral Monday protests.
The Bothwell campaign offered local citizens discounted round-trip seats for $20 a ticket, and approximately 100 participants will be joining Councilmember Bothwell on today’s trip to Raleigh.
“Tea Partiers in Raleigh are now shoving this state back toward the 19th Century as fast as they can cast their ‘ayes,’” said Councilman Bothwell. “If I tried to describe all that they have dismantled, we would be here all day. But the reality of the damage to the citizens of this state is breathtaking. It’s essential that we voice our profound dissatisfaction with the radical, right-wing legislation emanating from Raleigh.”
The N.C. NAACP began the Moral Monday protests in late April, and the event has since garnered national attention. Each Monday, protestors have gathered at the General Assembly building to voice their concerns about the harmful legislation that is being passed by the GOP majority in the state house and senate. During the past few weeks, hundreds of Ashevillians have boarded buses and carpooled to Raleigh to protest, among other issues, the recent attempt to seize Asheville’s water system without compensation or equal representation.
Incumbent Cecil Bothwell is running for re-election for another four-year term on the Asheville City Council. Bothwell is an investigative reporter, builder, organic gardener and public servant.
