Botanical Gardens at Asheville announces:
Want to identify those big brown mushrooms popping out of your mulch? How about the pretty yellow ones along woodland paths? Sheila Dunn’s workshop includes a classroom presentation and field trip (weather permitting). You will be introduced to the most common edible mushrooms found in the fields and forests of WCN and learn when and where choice edibles can be found. You will learn basic identification criteria and precautions for poisonous look-alikes. We’ll focus on favorites, such as chanterelles, morels, oysters, agaricus and chicken of the woods and will also point out the few poisonous mushrooms that lurk in our hills. Participants will receive a comprehensive resource list for further studies in this area.
Cost: BGA members: $10 Nonmembers: $15.
