Sen. Martin Nesbitt criticizes Governor on abortion bill, says NC ‘doesn’t need empty promises’

Press release

From the N.C. Senate Democrats:

Raleigh, NC –Today, Senate Democratic Leader Martin Nesbitt responded to Governor Pat McCrory’s statement that he will sign sweeping legislation passed by the House limiting access to healthcare for women across North Carolina.

“Women across North Carolina are learning the hard way that Pat McCrory would have said just about anything to become governor. If you’re going to make a promise in a campaign, you’d better keep it – because nobody’s going to forget. Governor McCrory led us to believe that he would stand up and lead – instead we’ve seen North Carolina’s reputation destroyed by an extreme Republican agenda with hardly a peep from the governor. And last fall, Pat McCrory stated unequivocally that he would not support restricting access to women’s healthcare. Instead, we’ve seen the governor play backroom political games so he could look tough while ultimately signing sweeping restrictions that will hurt thousands of women. I think we’ve learned that Pat McCrory will say anything to make folks like him, but the people of North Carolina don’t need empty promises. We need someone who will stand up and lead.” said Senate Democratic Leader Martin Nesbitt.
