• Nice Threads Fiber Gallery & Studio holds an Anything Fiber Sale on Saturday, Aug. 24. The event takes place in Washburn Center at the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly (84 Blue Ridge Cr., Black Mountain) from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. This is the fifth annual fiber sale and swap, "a yard sale for fiber people," says the studio's website. "All fiber people have hanks and cones of unused yarns, piles of unloved fabric, obscure tools that we forgot we had, looms that need a new home, duplicates of knitting needles, fleece that doesn't seem to get spun... right? So, come to buy all the unloved and unused materials and tools that local fiber artists are ready to part with. It's also a great way to connect with guilds and groups in the area and network with like-minded fiber people."
• The Village Square Art and Craft Show, held in in Kelsey Hutchinson Park in Highlands, N.C., features "regional artisans, demonstration, food, music, face painting, fun for the whole family." Admission is free; the show runs Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 24 and 25, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.
• Opportunity House (1411 Asheville Hwy., Hendersonville) hosts its 2013 Arts & Crafts Fair on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 30 and 31. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. The fair, which is in its 51st year, showcases homemade items by local crafters and runs concurrent with the N.C. Apple Festival.
• The Memory Makers Quilt Guild hosts a Quilt and Craft Show at the First Baptist Church on 6th Avenue and Buncombe Streets in Hendersonville. That exhibition and sale features the work of more than 30 artists (and also boasts refreshments). Proceeds benefit disaster victims. Saturday, Aug. 31, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
