Tonight's Ashevillle City Council community meeting agenda will focus on initiatives to improve walkable and pedestrian-friendly streets in North Asheville. Director of Transportation Ken Putnam will speak about an initiative to improve how walk-friendly the Charlotte Street corridor is for the community. Charlotte Street consists of both residential and commercial properties. Less specific to Charlotte Street, the council will also hear a presentation from Billie Buie about making North Asheville streets safer and more attractive for pedestrians.
Unrelated to walking, UNC Asheville's Chancellor Anne Ponder will speak about the initiatives and activities related specifically to the university.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. today, Aug. 30, at the Sherrill Center at UNC Asheville. The center will open at 5:30 p.m. so council and community members can tour the new facility that officially opened this month. Click here to read the full agenda.

Ludicrous!
North Asheville is perfectly fine to walk! Sidewalks? Check. Businesses to walk to? Check.
Now let's talk about East Asheville. Let's all say one word for each foot of East Asheville sidewalk...trust me, it will be a really short conversation!

remember that sidewalks are NOT environmentally friendly and are contrary to the 'green' agenda.
sidewalks kill specific ecosystems and we must not continue to pave over all the dirt. think
gravel paths instead for natural solutions. rip up existing sidewalks and replace with gravel paths to restore the planet.
