Hendersonville family responds to daughter's death

A body found Monday, Aug. 29, in the Swannanoa River at Azalea Park may likely be that of Destiny Lynn Reifschneider, missing since last Thursday. The Asheville Citizen-Times talked with her family, who say when they last heard from her, she was happy and optimistic.

In a mobile phone message to her parents last Thursday, Destiny Lynn Reifschneider seemed happy and optimistic.

She spoke of a promising job prospect and asked when the family wanted to celebrate her 28th birthday, which had been two days earlier. She said she was safe and happy.

It would be the last time her family heard from her.

Her parents, Kurt and Destiny Kate Reifschneider, and several of her six siblings fought back tears as they recalled the message Wednesday at the parents’ home on North Whitted Street in Hendersonville.
