From O'Henry's website:
O.Henry’s, located at 237 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801 and 35 years in the making, has changed hands. The previous owners, Pete Moyle & Steve McCain have owned the popular bar for the past 20 years. Together they have made O.Henry’s a friendly, informal gathering place that locals and visitors have been drawn to because of the smiles, laughs and comfortable atmosphere. Occasionally showcasing local bands, female impersonators and special events, to support the GLBTQ community, Pete and Steve have made a positive impact on the local and regional community that will not be forgotten.
O. Henry’s gets its origin from what was once a neighborhood lunch café that was “Gay Friendly” visited by the local gay community back in the late 60’s it has over the years expanded to what is O.Henry’s today.
As Pete Moyle & Steve McCain exit into retirement, the new owners Kevin Austin & Jim Haggerty, local to Asheville for the past 4 years, will assume operations on August 17, 2011. Austin and Haggerty have been long time customers of O.Henry’s, and have spent most of their careers in the hospitality industry.
Having been open for the last 10 years, in its current location, plans for O.Henry’s include a “Nip and Tuck” to the premises. “Prideful of the fact that O.Henry’s never closes”, we will be open during these renovations.” stated Haggerty. The new opening hours during renovations will be 4pm – closing daily.
“We are proud to be the torch bearers of this vital part of our Asheville Community. We invite everyone to “Come Out Again” and experience the changes we have in store. We will endeavor to provide Asheville and all surrounding areas with an establishment that embraces fond memories of old and new experiences for the future,” stated Austin.
