Tags:Roots/Americana band Poor Old Shine "is about honesty and hand crafted creativity." That's according to their bio. But don't dismiss this collective (Chris Freeman on banjo, Max Shakun on guitar and pump organ, Antonio Alcorn on mandolin and banjo, Harrison Goodale on bass) as too sweet or earnest. Their sound is "foot stomping, mind racing, dirty, down home." And, although their Storrs, Conn. is pretty far removed from mountain grit, the band roots its sound in folk, bluegrass and Appalachian traditions.
Poor Old Shine performs as part of the Altamont Soundcheck series on Tuesday, Oct. 22. 8 p.m., $10/$12.
