Following an extensive interview process, Buncombe County Schools is pleased to announce the promotion of Senior Supervisor Terry Hess to the role of Director of the BCS Transportation Department. Hess has worked in the school system’s Transportation Department for 21 years, and succeeds Director Harold Laflin, who retired from the position on August 31.
“Terry has been intricately involved in the day-to-day operations of the Transportation Department for many years, and knows the needs of our schools, students and parents,” says Tony Baldwin, Superintendent of Schools. “He is respected by co-workers and members of the community alike, including law enforcement, emergency management, the school transportation arm of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, and other transportation professionals. In fact, a number of those professionals gave willingly of their time to serve on the 11-person selection committee. Their thoughts and perspectives were given a great deal of weight in this appointment.”
Hess is a 1978 graduate of A.C. Reynolds High School.
