ASHEVILLE - The City of Asheville announced today that after a nationwide search, Barbara Whitehorn will serve as the city’s new finance director, effective Dec. 9.
Ms. Whitehorn emerged as the top candidate after comprehensive interviews and assessment centers that in addition to city staff included input from local financial professionals. She brings a wide range of experience with over ten years of professional financial management and accounting in the non-profit, for profit and government sectors. She is a Certified Government Finance Officer with the Government Finance Officers Association of Texas, and currently serves as a member of the GFOA of the United States & Canada Committee on Retirement and Benefits Administration.
“Barbara is a well-rounded financial professional who has the enthusiasm and experience to lead our finance department. We believe she will be an excellent addition to our team,” said City Manager Gary Jackson.
Ms. Whitehorn will come to the City of Asheville from the City of Arlington, TX where she has served as Controller since 2010. She has an MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas where she focused her studies in accounting, finance and operations research.
