Drivers tired of negotiating the cockeyed intersection at Black Mountain’s center better get used to it.
With realignment costs for the Montreat Road - State Street intersection estimated at $350,000, local officials have basically given up hope of straightening the four-way meeting of streets.
As a sign of resignation, the Town recently paid $30,000 to lay down 580 feet of new sidewalk along the intersection, cementing the paths’ crookedness for decades - or even longer, said former Black Mountain Mayor Carl Bartlett.
