6th annual Cajun cook-off heats up AshevillePress release:
Asheville Mardi Gras continues the 2014 Carnival season with its 6th Annual Cajun Cook-off and Arts & Oddities auction on Sunday, February 9th. This AMG event takes place from 3-7 p.m. at Asheville's premiere event space, The Mill Room, located in the heart of downtown Asheville at 66 Asheland Ave.
Everyone is welcome to try their hand at creating Asheville's best Cajun dish. The crowd's favorite will take home the coveted cook-off trophy, not to mention, bragging rights until next year's cook-off where they will defend their title. This year's competition is already hotter than ever. Some of your favorite local chefs are stepping up to the plate again and you get to be the judge to decide who is the best Cajun Chef in Western North Carolina. Past dishes have included everything from alligator ѐtouffѐe to crawfish cheesecake. Once all guests are pleasantly full, we will present the Art & Oddities Silent Auction where you can find and bid on spectacular, bazaar, collectible and crafty items created by local legends and folk artists.
The cook-off and auction are open to the public and are fundraisers to help support Manna Food Bank and the Asheville Mardi Gras Parade and Ball. Parade and Ball are free to all and will occur on Sunday, March 2nd. This event always boasts the talents of local artists, chefs and lovers of Louisiana cuisine. Entry is $10 and a canned good for non-AMG members. The event is free (with canned food donation) to all 2014 AMG members. You will enjoy delicious Cajun creations, dance to great music, and marvel at the costuming extravaganza that comes with the spirit of the Mardi Gras Season. This year’s Cajun Cook-off will also showcase local comedian Agusta Wind, to MC and announce the winners. This is a community event and is family friendly. You and your family can participate at any level. Enter a Cajun dish, bid on or donate to the Arts & Oddities Silent Auction, dress in your Mardi Gras best and dance the day away or just come with an empty belly and a hunger for some wonderful Cajun cooking!
