Ashley Garner, a senior social work major at Mars Hill University, has been chosen from a national pool of college students for a prestigious internship with SAMHSA (the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration). The internship will take place during the spring 2014 semester, from January 13 - April 25, 2014, at the SAMHSA offices in Rockville, MD, a suburb of Washington DC.
The 15-week SAMHSA Internship Program is part of the agency's efforts to attract the best and brightest and is open to highly qualified college and university students with interest and experience in the following areas: public health, behavioral and social sciences, public policy
information technology, business administration, business communications.
According to Liz Anderson, professor of social work at Mars Hill University, Ashley has a strong interest in both public health and social work, which made her a natural fit for the internship. “This position was advertised nationally, and it is a highly coveted addition to the resume of a young person hoping for a career in social work. We feel it is an honor to have Ashley selected by SAMHSA for this internship. We know that she will represent Mars Hill University well,” Anderson said.
