Join Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy this Sunday, February 16th, for an interpretive hike highlighting the scenic beauty and rich history of Rockbrook Camp. Founded in 1921, rustic Rockbrook Camp for Girls is located southwest of Brevard along the French Broad River. In 2010, CMLC placed a conservation easement on 115 acres at the camp.
Hiking destinations include scenic Castle Rock and picturesque Rockbrook Falls. Camp Director Jeff Carter and local historian Dr. G. Keith Parker will share local history of the camp, including legend tracing the origin of the region’s white squirrels to Rockbrook near a century ago.
CMLC conserves land and water resources to benefit the quality of life of residents and visitors in Henderson, Transylvania, and surrounding counties. Since 1994, the land trust has protected more than 27,000 acres of natural lands in our mountains.
Total hiking distance is 2.0 miles with 400 feet of elevation gain. The hike and is rated as moderate difficultyand begins at 2:00pm, lasting about two hours. For more details and to sign-up for the hike, visit carolinamountain.org.
