About the Jewish Family Services
Jewish Family Services of WNC is a nonprofit social service organization providing critical services to individuals and families. Since 1999 JFS has provided the Elder Club group socialization to seniors and respite to caregivers; in 2007 JFS expanded to provide services to people at all ages and stages of life, including Case Management, Job Coaching, Food Pantry, and direct assistance and information/referral for financial, housing, transportation, mental health and other community resources. Formerly a program under the Asheville Jewish Community Center, in June 2011 JFS incorporated and separated from the JCC as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit agency. In November of 2013, JFS relocated all offices and programs to a new facility at Doctors Park, which allows for expansion of the Food Pantry, the group respite program, and other supportive services. On-site mental health counseling services are planned for 2014. JFS services emphasize assisting and empowering the client to become as self-sufficient as possible. JFS is the only Jewish social service agency in western North Carolina. JFS services are open to all people regardless of faith, race, gender, sexual orientation, and ethnicity, country of origin, age, and ability. Services are provided on a sliding scale to accommodate clients of all income status.
