Press Release

The Learning Community School

The Learning Community School will present Annie, the classic Broadway musical featuring popular songs such as “Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” and “Tomorrow.” The production runs Friday, May 2nd, at 6:00 PM and Saturday, May 3rd, at 4:00 PM in Owen High School’s Auditorium.  Tickets are $12 general admission/$6 for children 5 and under, and can be purchased online at www.thelearningcommunity.org/musical.

A raffle for an iPad mini, donated by Blue Ridge Orthodontics, and an incredible online silent auction will be held in conjunction with the event.  The silent auction features fabulous area restaurants, internationally acclaimed artists, luxury vacations, as well as many goods and services from local businesses.

The Learning Community School, now in its 18th year, is an innovative, independent school for grades K-8 located on the grounds of Camp Rockmont, former home of Black Mountain College.  The school emphasizes hands-on, experiential education in combination with outdoor education, performing arts, teamwork, and rigorous academics.  The annual all-school musical has become a cultural tradition in the Swannanoa Valley.  In addition to the audience members who attend the sold-out performances each year, hundreds of children and other community members who seldom have opportunities to attend live theatre events enjoy free performances. Each of the 75 students of The Learning Community is a performer in the show, and every family participates in its production in some way, whether by building sets, working with the silent auction, sewing costumes, baking concessions, prompting lines, or serving in any number of other invaluable ways.

The school would like to thank the our generous Production Benefactors, Joel Adams & Associates, Stern Plastic Surgery, Delia Design, Native Kitchen and Social Pub, and Mark Kleive, DDS for helping bring this show to the Black Mountain and Montreat communities.  This production of Annie is sure to delight children of all ages.
