Diabetes educators at Park Ridge Health earn specialty certification

Michelle DeGeeter, Pharm.D., C.D.E., and Shawn Riser Taylor, Pharm.D., C.D.E., of Park Ridge Health’s Diabetes Management Clinic, have both earned certification as Certified Diabetes Educators (C.D.E.). DeGeeter and Taylor have been providing diabetes education services at Park Ridge since Park Ridge Health and Wingate University School of Pharmacy partnered in May 2012 to open the Diabetes Management Clinic.
A Certified Diabetes Educator is a health professional who possesses comprehensive knowledge of and experience in prediabetes, diabetes prevention and management. A C.D.E. educates and supports people affected by diabetes to help them understand and manage the condition. A C.D.E. promotes self-management to achieve individualized behavioral and treatment goals that optimize health outcomes.
Through the Diabetes Management Clinic, DeGeeter and Taylor offer the following one-on-one patient services free of charge: medication reconciliation, glucometer and insulin administration training, lifestyle modification and smoking cessation counseling, and weight management instruction and coaching. These services are offered at Park Ridge Health Endocrinology and Park Ridge Health at Laurel Park.
