North Carolina and Haywood County are helping Evergreen Packaging meet new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency boiler regulations that will cost the plant $50 million over the next five years, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported Wednesday.
The N.C. Department of Commerce has agreed to give the company $2.1 million and the county has committed $700,000 to meet a company grant goal of $2.8 million.
“That is a good start,” said Sen. Jim Davis, R-Franklin, who has been involved in getting the grant. “We’ve got a long way to go. We need to do everything we can to keep that business alive and well.”
