While some of you dig such uncuddly critters as snakes, tarantulas, ferrets and (in the case of my 11-year-old brother) palmetto bugs -- most animal-lovers tend toward felines and canines when choosing a bestial buddy -- which is probably why readers overwhelmingly name-checked businesses geared toward cats and dogs for their top pet-service picks.

One thing that makes these stores so much fun -- especially the pet-supply stores -- is that Fido gets to shop with you. Which pretty much makes up for taking him to the vet or the groomer. Now, if only restaurants would institute pet-friendy sections complete with meals, so pets could join their owners for a night on the town ... or am I taking things too far?
