Creatures of habit? It would seem that pet owners in the Asheville area have ferreted out some tried-and-true favorites, because there are very few changes in voters’ choices for who gets to keep, supply or doctor their furry companions. Top Dog Kennel, which placed second last year, is truly top dog in this round by virtue of changing places with Black Mountain’s Bed & Biscuit. Same goes for pet supplies, with veteran winner Asheville Pet Supply swapping its former first-place seat with PetSmart, last year’s second-place finisher.

But in perhaps the most important category of all - where to take your ailing pet - voters were as loyal to their vets as their companions are to them. The first, second and third place finishers were exactly the same, with Charlotte Street Animal Hospital again in the lead.

There were two newbies this year: The Dog House tied for third in best kennel, and Pet Supplies Plus did the same in best pet supply. A slurpy welcome to them, and congratulatory wags to those old dogs ... er, businesses ... that keep on keepin’ our voters (and pets) happy.
