As Asheville's reputation as a pet-friendly town began to grow, "Best of" added a separate Pets category in 2005. And in typical, pet-loyal fashion, most of the 2007 winners are familiar names.
Charlotte Street Animal Hospital, which itself has been growing and just relocated to new digs at 208 Charlotte St., moved into our Hall of Fame by taking first place for vets for the third year in a row. Animal Hospital of North Asheville has held the second spot all three years. Only Haw Creek Animal Hospital is new on the list, in third place.
Black Mountain's Bed & Biscuit is top kennel for the second time in three pet-voting years. Bed & Biscuit, Top Dog and The Dog House have been on the list all three years. You Work, I'll Play and At Play with Sparky are newbies. (A personal aside: You Work, I'll Play chose a name that makes me envious every time I drive by their sign.)
And what about stuff? Pet-supply buyers gave Hall of Fame veteran Asheville Pet Supply second place to PetSmart this year (they keep trading places). Pet Supplies Plus made the list for their second year in a row. Congratulations, all.
