Pushing classical ballet techniques off center, Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance creates a unique choreography style that stretches and expands the repertoire of traditional ballet. Founded by choreographer and dance teacher Heather Maloy in 2003, the company is dedicated to showcasing a fusion between classical and modern dance that is graceful, commanding and often spellbinding.
For three years in a row — ever since the Best Local Dance Company category cropped up on the ballot — Terpsicorps has come out on top, proving that the company’s dynamic performances continue to mesmerize local audiences.
Working in the summer season, from June through August — which is typically the off-season for most ballet companies in the U.S. — Maloy is able to recruit professional dancers to train in Asheville in preparation for the company’s annual performances at Diana Wortham Theatre.
