Jack of the Wood calls it Quizzo, and it happens every Monday night. The devoted show up hours ahead of time to save seats. Local celebrity Jason Mencer of folk-outfit Now You See Them hosts the event most weeks, and prizes are bestowed for a variety of distinctions (First place: a $40 gift certificate, Best team name: pitcher of beer, etc.).
“We’re always packed, and people make a night of it,” says bar manager Mike Boutin. The bar offers a special $5 menu, and even the bartenders get in on the action, Boutin says. And Mencer is a terrific host: “He’s entertaining, he’s got a good stage presence, and he’s a smart guy, which is a good thing for Quizzo,” Boutin says.
If you’re going, get there early, have a wacky name for your crew and be ready for a raucous (and challenging) time.
