The Biltmore Coffee Co. opened on Aug.1 at 1 N. Pack Square, on the ground floor of the I.M. Pei-designed building that houses Biltmore's corporate offices and Merrill Lynch. "What makes us unique is everyone here worked at the Biltmore Estate," says Clorietha Fenton, the café's general manager. "We brought our quality and our standards and our hospitality to downtown Asheville." (Pictured, left to right: Cloreitha Fenton and Robert Bickford, manager.) Photo by Megan Dombroski
A recent post on AskAsheville, a local blog run by Gary Charles, speculates that local breweries may be tapped out when it comes to caring about the title of Beer City, USA. In his post, Charles focuses on the Twitter presence of local brewing companies, and lists the amount of times they tweeted about the poll. He then proceeds to speculate that the lack of tweets stem from a general apathy from brewers to win the title again.
Local activists met in the Laurel Forum at UNC Asheville today to encourage students to find their passions and get involved. “The cries of the people who are oppressed are loud if you’re sensitive,” said Clare Hanrahan, founder of the New South Network of War Resisters and legal adviser to the Occupy Asheville movement.
