Hello.  I am interested in 6 hens, but I have a question.  We have a duck house and a small yard about 20 by 20, which houses 1 mature Moscovy duck and 5 3-month old Muscovy ducks.  Would there be any conflict in putting the chickens and ducks in the same house and yard?  I will coming to Charlotte on the 11th and could pick them up then.

The hens won’t be available until January sometime - we are waiting to hear!  It’s no problem for ducks and chickens to be together - sounds like you have a great environment for them.

My ducks and chickens live happily together in my backyard.

I sent in an application for Chickens and have not heard back yet. From the questions asked it seemed they are looking for people who are never going to eat them… maybe they are going to relax that standard on chickens.

Whit,
We will be sending out an email later this month as we know more;  the hens will be ready for pick up sometime in January.  The organization we are working with is looking for homes that most closely match what the organic farm was going to do - I’m not sure of the details but they’ll be looking at the applications soon!

Is it safe to say they wouldn’t make good “yard bird” type chickens? How are they around kids, being picked up, since they’ve been raised in a large farm?

We think they would make very good pets!

Sandi,
Whatever happened with all the chickens? Have they found new homes?
