Buncombe won’t appeal ruling OK’ing Flat Creek concrete plant

Asheville Citizen-Times reports: Buncombe County commissioners decided Tuesday not to appeal a court ruling requiring the county to allow construction of a concrete plant in the Flat Creek community that has been the subject of neighborhood protests.

Commissioners agreed to a settlement with the company seeking to build the plant on Murphy Hill Road in northern Buncombe County. Under terms of the settlement, the company agreed to changes in plant plans designed to make it more palatable to neighbors, and the county agreed not to take the issue to the state Court of Appeals….

Meanwhile, in Madison County, another concrete plant got the go-ahead, reports the Citizen-Times:

“Bart Jones says he wants “to get started right away” on construction of his concrete plant in the quarry off U.S. 25/70 after the Madison County Board of Adjustment voted 4-1to approve a conditional-use permit for the facility.

“The vote came after a five-hour long public hearing last week in the courtroom of the Madison County Courthouse.”
