Comments: 0 Views: 82Congressman Heath Shuler successfully obtained $13 million for Swain County as a down payment on an eventual North Shore Road settlement in a House vote on Wednesday. Dec. 16. The funds for the initial North Shore Road payment was passed as a provision attached to a spending bill.
This is another step closer to settling the North Shore Road issue. The Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2010 releases $4 million to Swain County immediately with the remaining to be released after a settlement agreement is reached.

The Hendersonville Times-News reported today: “The Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2010 that passed the House on Wednesday releases $4 million to Swain County immediately after being signed into law, with the remaining $8.8 million to be released 120 days after a settlement agreement is reached. “The Senate is expected to pass this legislation this weekend. Republicans criticized Shuler for a separate vote Wednesday. Shuler voted to raise the debt ceiling. The House voted 218-214 to raise the debt limits. No Republican voted for the measure, and 39 Democrats voted against the bill.” The Asheville Citizen-Times report today is here: |
