Sylva’s ushers in holidays with Dec. 5 Christmas parade
Here's the top of the story from the Sylva Herald:
There’s no better way to kick off the holiday season than with Sylva’s annual parade, sponsored each year by the Downtown Sylva Association. This year’s parade is this Saturday, Dec. 5, and will depart from the former Southern Lumber building on Skyland Drive at 3:30 p.m.
It’s theme is “A Storybook Christmas,” and the grand marshals will be the outgoing mayors of Sylva, Dillsboro and Webster – Brenda Oliver, Jean Hartbarger and Steve Gray, respectively.
Parade lineup will start at 1:30 p.m. with the parade departing two hours later. The route will follow Skyland Drive to McDonald’s then turn right onto Business 23. Walkers will join the parade at United Community Bank just before the parade makes a right turn onto Main Street. As has been the case for several years now, when the parade reaches downtown it will travel the “wrong way” down Main Street – toward the old Courthouse – before ending at Mark Watson Park.
