The Literacy Council of Buncombe County invites you to participate in the 20th Annual Literacy Council Spelling Bee on May 27, 2010. This event will generate funds to support local literacy tutoring and provide an evening of unforgettable fun for the participants and audience. The evening will include a raffle, a team spirit box competition, and of course, the Bee itself with challenging and fun words!

A team consists of three adult spellers.  The team has the opportunity to confer on the word called before one team member spells the word.  The great mix of people, personalities, and competitive spirit make this a fun event!  Givens Estates walked away as the winning team in 2009 and Asheville City Schools took the prize in 2008.
Our goal for the 20th Annual Spelling Bee is to increase our financial efforts and make this year our most successful fundraising event in the history of the Bee. The team entry fee is $75.00. This fee will enter each member of your team into a raffle to win prizes throughout the event.
A Spirit Box, designated for each Spelling Bee Team, encourages the audience to make additional contributions to the Literacy Council in honor of their favorite team.  A prize is awarded to the team with the most Spirit Box contributions.
Your interest in the Spelling Bee is greatly appreciated and we look forward to entering a team from your establishment in the 20th Annual Literacy Council Spelling Bee, scheduled for Thursday, May 27th at 7:00pm at AB Tech’s Ferguson Auditorium.
