Local rockers Mother Soul compete to open for KISS

Rock band Mother Soul, major players on the Asheville music scene during the 1990s, is enjoying quite a resurgence — including a number of local shows and, most recently, entering a contest where the band receiving the most fan votes wins an opening slot on the upcoming KISS tour.

To qualify as an opener, a band has to be in top five in the Eventful.com (http://eventful.com/competitions/kiss2010/register)  competition and Mother Soul currently holds the number four spot. Guitarist Joe Lasher offers some other reasons to vote for his band:

“20 years ago ... We had a very successful 4 year run, releasing an album and touring all up and down the East Coast. ... The 5 of us remained friends, but went our separate ways. ...In 2009, I organized the ‘Asheville Rewind,’ an event that raised almost $6,000 for Eliada Children’s home in Asheville. That ‘reunion show’ has led to our continued song writing and one year later, we’re still going. We’ve released a new LIVE CD and have now found ourselves in the running to OPEN for KISS in Charlotte on August 18th.

“I think that the story is, ‘Honey, we got the band back together’ after a 16 year break. We’re writing the best music of our lives and now these THREE DADS, CHEF and Guitar Guru have a chance to make their rock n roll dreams come true. We continue to create and perform in Fundraising events. We were featured, and were the driving force behind the 2009 Hometown Holiday Jam at the Orange Peel. Currently, I have the ‘Asheville Unplugged’ coming up in two weeks to raise funds for Eliada Children’s Home.”
