A group of Asheville, N.C. musicians are getting together this weekend to celebrate the music and legacy of a country music queen.
At 8 p.m. Saturday at the Grey Eagle in Asheville, the Loretta Lynn Tribute is taking place with all of the proceeds from the show going to charity.
David Fender is the organizer of the event and he has a long history with Lynn’s music. His parents played her songs often in his home growing up, the first album he purchased was her “They Don’t Make Them Like My Daddy” release and he’s watched her biopic movie often.
“David is a huge Loretta Lynn fan and he’s organized the whole event (because) he just selfishly wanted an entire night of Loretta,” alternative country singer Nikki Talley said with a laugh.
All of the acts, including Holiday Childress (of the Goodies), Sadie Anais, Kim and Pete McWhirter, The Gin Fits, Melissa Hyman, The Critters and The Leigh Glass Band, will put away their own music for the night and focus on the Hall of Famer’s songs.
