The deadline for the Mission Possible high school paid internship program at Mission Hospital has been extended until midnight, Wednesday March 23. Interested students should immediately apply online; visit Missionhospitals.org and search Mission. They may also contact program coordinator Lauren Abe at
lauren.able@msj.org .The cost of scrubs and materials will be covered by the program. All students selected will be compensated at a rate of $7.25 per hour.
The program offers intensive, hands on experience learning about career options in the health care industry, particularly hospitals. It provides information on the opportunities available, education and training requirements, assistance and scholarship opportunities, and a free career consultation. Nearly 40 hospital departments will give presentations on career opportunities they offer. Participants are provided with health and wellness education and receive hands on experiences through shadowing, observation and rotations in various hospital areas. Emphasis is placed on the multicultural needs of a diverse patient and employee population.
Two sessions are offered. The one for Asheville High School students and current Mission Hospitals Junior volunteers will be held, June 14 through July 12. The one for Buncombe County High School Students will be held July 7 through August 12. Sessions are held Monday through Friday from 9 am to 2 pm. A breakfast snack and lunch will be provided daily.
